Visit to Nunnington Hall

Several members of our Social Group plus two Guide Dogs enjoyed a day trip to Nunnington Hall recently. Arriving in pouring rain we were greeted by two members of staff who were extremely helpful, and made us feel welcome.

A Braille guide was available; Jim read some of it he said it was very informative but he would need about an hour to read it properly.

The tea room opened at 12.30pm where we all enjoyed a lovely meal the menu was excellent with a wide variety of delicious food on offer.

The house opened at 1-30pm, along with sighted volunteers who guided visually impaired people we made our way around the house where there were several rooms all filled with 16th and 17th century furniture. Nunnington do not do tours but there is a guide in every room who gave a good visual description to our group which made it very interesting and most informative to those who could not see at all.

Looking out of the windows the sun shone over the grounds where peacocks were strutting about all adding to the grandeur of the place. The gardens were lovely and a wide variety of song birds could be heard.

Everybody enjoyed the day despite the wet start and is very much looking forward to our next day out. Peter our mini bus driver for the day was also very helpful.

Come and join us !

BlindVoice UK is always happy to meet new blind and visually impaired people. Why not come along and join in our social activities, talk to other visually impaired people with a cup of coffee, have a laugh who knows you might even enjoy yourself and want to learn more about what our charity can offer.

SocialEyes meets every 2 weeks on a Wednesday afternoon and Blind Spots our younger people's group meet in during holiday periods.
