Local Charity Name Change

Stockton Blind People’s Voice is a well known local charity that has been in existence for almost 10 years. The last three years, following funding from the Big Lottery, has seen organisational change in the services it provides to local blind people. Their recently published Annual Report presents new aims, objectives, mission statement and vision for the future to reflect the organisations work in improving the lives of blind people.

Most services are aimed at local people but the charity has recently developed its Transcription Service as a social enterprise making it accessible across the UK.

Manager Christine Durnion said “We are increasingly being approached for help by people and organisations from all parts of the country. We offer a high quality service, with competitive prices and are able to offer a quick turnaround for work. We are supporting employers, employees, schools, colleges and universities and local authorities across the UK. We need to become less dependent on grants by earning our own income and we are therefore, after much deliberation, changing our name to BlindVoice UK to reflect the work we are doing nationally with our Transcription Service.

George Glass, Chairman and founder member said “I am delighted that we are making a difference to people beyond the Tees Valley with our Transcription Service we have even done some work for organisations in the USA who contacted us via our website. It is amazing how our reach has grown over the last 3 years.
